Mobil industrial lubricants - proof of performance in the food industry
The food industry is one of the most important sectors worldwide. Given the complexity of this sector and the variety of the equipment used, maintenance can bring significant costs if not managed properly.
However, an appropriate lubrication system can bring significant savings and can help you avoid production problems or problems related to the maintenance of the equipment used.
See below three case studies that prove the performance of the Mobil industrial lubricants and what potential benefits they can bring for the equipment used in the food industry.
1. Annual savings of $325,000
One of the biggest challenges when it comes to the lubrication of the equipment used in the food industry is contamination. For example, a meat processing factory in the USA was faced with the problem of contamination of lubricants, which has led to very frequent oil changes and high costs related to the maintenance of the equipment.
These problems arose because the concerned company was using for the protection of the equipment a standard 80W-90 lubricant, which is vulnerable to the interaction with water.
Thus, the recommended measure was the transition to Mobil SHC Cibus 150, an NSF H1 registered lubricant with a viscosity index and additives that ensure the separation of water and excellent corrosion protection in a wide range of equipment used in the food industry.
The change of used industrial lubricant led to the increase of lubricant change intervals and to the avoidance of its contamination with water. Thus, the maintenance program has been improved, which generated annual savings of $325,000.
2. Increase of lubricants change interval with 200%
For a company producing ice cream in Poland, an increase of the change interval was wanted for the lubricant used in the 11 refrigeration equipment running on ammonia. At the beginning of the performance test, the lubricant change was performed once a year, when there were needed about 3800 liters of oil.
The company was originally using a mineral oil, but found a great alternative to extend oil change intervals: the synthetic Mobil Gargoyle Arctic SHC 226 lubricant, a lubricant which is available in Romania through the authorized distributor Star Lubricants.
Switching to a synthetic lubricant for the refrigeration units owned by the company contributed to the increase of change interval from 1 to 3 years. Thus, the costs for the maintenance of the equipment have been reduced, as well as those related to the waste generated by the disposal of spent lubricant.
3. $140,000 savings for the maintenance of refrigeration compressors
A brewery in Poland was affected by problems related to the premature degradation of the lubricant due to oxidation, which led to a poor performance of the refrigeration compressors. In this case, it was decided to replace the previously used lubricant with the Mobil Gargoyle Arctic SHC 226 lubricant.
After running the equipment with the new lubricant for 3 years, the company achieved the following benefits:
- Extended lubricant change intervals
- Reduction of costs associated with maintenance and with the disposal of spent lubricant
All these represent a saving of $140,000 over a period of three years for the company in Poland.
The above field tests show the contribution that can be made to the improvement of the performance of the equipment used in the food industry by choosing a suitable lubricant.
